Best position for Closed Terrariums

Closed terrariums create a confined space for plants, simulating their natural surroundings, allowing them to thrive in a smaller and sealed off environment. While a terrarium can be used to house many types of plants, tropical plants are particularly well-suited to life inside as they are adapted to plenty of light, humidity and a constant temperature. When setting up a terrarium, it’s important to consider the best position for its tropical plants, ensuring their development and overall health.

Best position for Closed Terrariums

When deciding on the location of a terrarium, the most important consideration is the need for light. Tropical plants require plenty of indirect sunlight. Generally, try to avoid direct sunlight as this can become too intense for some plants, sometimes leading to over-heating and unnecessary damage.

Maintaining the right level of humidity is also important when it comes to setting up a terrarium. To optimise the humidity levels, position your terrarium away from direct heat sources, as dry air can be damaging. Additionally, placing the terrarium near other plants and warm surfaces can boost the humidity levels. Another way to increase the humidity is by adding pebbles and water to the bottom of the terrarium. This can also act as a subtle decoration within the terrarium.

In terms of temperature, tropical plants typically tend to prefer a warm environment. As they are closed terrariums are enclosed systems, the glass can create a mini greenhouse effect meaning heat absorbed from the sun during the day should be enough to maintain a stable temperature. Try to avoid leaving terrariums in a cold draught, if possible, too.

Once situated in the right place, a terrarium can bring life and vibrant visuals to a space and the knowledgeable positioning of tropical plants is the key to success. With their bright colours, vivid shapes and variety of textures, tropic plants in a terrarium form a beautiful, self-sufficient ecosystem where they can truly thrive.

In Summary:

· Place in bright indirect sunlight

· Maintain good levels of humidity

· Place in warm spot, away from draughts
