Autumn is a beautiful time for succulents. The air turns crisp, the sunlight softens, and your little rosettes and hardy sempervivums might need just a touch of TLC to help them thrive through the cooler months. Don’t worry, it’s simpler than it sounds, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
Light: Make the Most of Those Shorter Days
As the days get shorter, your succulents will need a little extra love. Place them somewhere bright, ideally near a south or west-facing window. If natural light is limited, don’t be afraid to rotate your plants so all sides get a fair share!
Watering: Less Is More

Nobody likes a soggy succulent. In autumn, most succulents need far less water than in summer. Always check the soil first, if it’s completely dry, it’s time to water. Usually, every 2–3 weeks is plenty. Tip: water in the morning so any extra moisture has time to dry before nighttime.
If you’re browsing for plants to grow indoors this autumn, our shop has a great selection of easy-care options.
Temperature & Humidity: Keep It Cozy
Succulents love cool nights but dislike frost. Keep your indoor plants away from draughty windows and cold doorways. Sempervivums (which most of our plants are) are tougher, they can handle a light frost outdoors, but a sudden cold snap is always a good cue to bring delicate pots inside, to save on frost breakages!
Feeding: Take a Break
Autumn isn’t the time to push your succulents with fertiliser. Most will slow their growth as the days shorten and heat drops, so give them a break until spring. This helps them store energy and stay strong for winter, we all need a break!
Cleaning & Inspection: Quick Plant TLC

Autumn is perfect for a gentle clean-up. Remove any dead leaves, check for pests, and make sure the soil is fresh and well-draining. This little bit of care now saves bigger headaches later.
